Our client, a specialist consulting company with projects in a variety of industries, such as transportation, power transmission, water, mining, forestry, property and also government sectors, is seeking a Professional Geoscientist (registered with EGBC) with a passion for applied earth sciences and a dedication to lifelong learning in a technically challenging and inspiring team environment.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, relevant work experience, and a desire to travel and work in remote and exciting conditions.

 

The right candidate will be able to thrive in a close-knit, safety-focused culture with a strong sense of teamwork. The role will work alongside an established team of geohazard experts and will be well supported across our business, with skilled resources in other sections. 

 

This role will be performed in a combination of office and outdoor environments, in various types of weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday, and may include weekends.

 

Typical fieldwork includes:

  • Field mapping;

  • Test pitting and stratigraphic trenching;

  • Dendrochronology;

  • Slope hazard identification and monitoring;

  • River/stream inspection;

  • Landslide assessments;

  • Emergency landslide responses;

  • Periodic construction field review.

 

Fieldwork can involve up to week long stints in remote, but beautiful areas.

 

In this role, the successful candidate will undertake and manage geoscience projects from proposal, preparation to fieldwork, and then undertake analysis and reporting.

 

Typical office work for this role includes:

  • Reporting and interpretation of field data;

  • Geoscience analysis including material and site characterization;

  • Natural hazards risk management;

  • Interpretation of instrumentation data, and contribution to designs.

 

The right candidate will drive business development through successful delivery of projects and promote a safe working culture by identifying and eliminating safety hazards.

 

Skills should include:

  • Terrain stability and mapping;

  • Soil and rock mechanics;

  • Slope stability and stabilization;

  • An understanding of groundwater flow and surface hydrology;        

  • A knowledge of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and change detection analysis.        

  • A knowledge of Geographical Information System (GIS) and database management

 

While not essential, previous slope stability (both soil and rock) modeling would be an asset.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $115,000.00-$135,000.00 per year, based on experience

  • Dental care

  • Extended health care

 

This role is a fulltime position based in the Kamloops office, with opportunities to travel to work on project with other offices.
